Barca launch shock $164m bid for Everton star as Gunners target another defender: Rumour mill

With less than 48 hours remaining in the January transfer window, things are starting to heat up as more and more moves are being confirmed, reports skysports.
Manchester United have signed Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal have brought in Pablo Mari and Tottenham have got Steven Bergwijn.
So, who else will change clubs before the end of the season? Find out in today’s Rumour Mill.
Everton have turned down an offer of €100m (£85m) from Barcelona for Brazilian striker Richarlison.
Everton rejected the offer immediately, unwilling to sell one of their prized assets as they look to strengthen their squad – rather than deplete it.
Richarlison is a long-standing target of Barca’s sporting director Eric Abidal, who enquired about the 22-year-old’s availability last summer but saw those advances knocked back.
Abidal believes Richarlison, who signed a new five-year deal at Everton in December, would complement Luis Suarez’s style of play.
Barca, currently three points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid, are looking for a striker to strengthen their squad after Suarez was ruled out for four months following knee surgery earlier in January.
Richarlison joined Everton for £40m from Watford back in July 2018, and has scored 24 goals in 60 appearances, including 10 in 27 games so far this campaign.
On Tuesday, it emerged Barca had also missed out on Valencia striker Rodrigo.
The Spanish champions have until Friday to bring in a forward this month, with La Liga’s transfer window closing at 11pm GMT on January 31 – the same time as the Premier League.
Newcastle have agreed a deal to sign Tottenham left-back Danny Rose on loan until the end of the season.
Speaking last week, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce said: “He’s a quality player and a class act, the kid. Whether it’s possible, who knows?”
Bournemouth and Watford had also been interested in Rose, who has not featured in any of Tottenham’s last four games.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho recently denied reports him and Rose were involved in a training ground row and also claimed the defender was still a part of his future plans.
Last November, Rose claimed he would stay at Tottenham until his contract runs out in the summer of 2021 after it was understood the club wanted to offload him in last summer’s transfer window.
But with England’s participation in the European Championships this summer, the chance of regular first-team football could be a factor in him leaving Tottenham.
BARCA BACK FOR WILLIAN
Barcelona are preparing a last-minute £20m bid for Chelsea winger Willian. The La Liga side have been long-term admirers of the Brazilian, who will be out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer. With competition growing to sign Willian on a free contract in July, Barca are looking to steal a march on a number of top European teams and land him for a fee, believed to be £20m, before Friday’s deadline.
Barcelona launched a series of bids for Willian in the summer of 2018, the last of which topped £55m, which were all rejected by Chelsea.
Talks over a new contract are yet to suggest a deal is possible and it is expected the 31-year old will leave the Blues in the summer unless a deal can be brokered before Saturday’s 10am (AEDT) deadline.
ARSENAL RIGHT-BACK IN THE MARKET
Southampton right-back Cedric Soares is close to joining Arsenal after the two Premier League clubs agreed a loan deal.
The Portugal international – part of the Euro 2016-winning squad – will join Arsenal until the end of the season, when he will become a free agent at the end of his Saints contract.
Arsenal are keen to strengthen their defence, having kept just four clean sheets in the Premier League this season.
Soares, who joined Southampton in 2015 from Sporting Lisbon, has been a regular in the starting line-up during the club’s resurgence in form under Ralph Hasenhuttl since December, before he suffered a knee injury during the win against Crystal Palace earlier this month.
The 28-year-old joined Inter Milan on loan last January with an option to buy at the end of the season which the Italian club did not take up.
Southampton confirmed the arrival of Kyle Walker-Peters from Tottenham on loan until the end of the season on Wednesday as a replacement to compete with Yan Valery.
