Elton John, Charli XCX, Burna Boy among first artists to play at Apple Music Hall
Monday night’s alright for… lighting up Apple’s new music venue? But will the 600-strong crowd be still standing by the end? The artist will rock-it, man! Etc etc. And also sorry.
Yes, Elton John has been announced as the first artist to play Apple Music Hall in London. He’ll headline the new venue’s opening night on Monday (28 September).
Those include performances by Charli XCX, Burna Boy, Chase & Status, Arlo Parks, Troye Sivan, Skye Newman and Baby Keem, in a series of concerts that runs through to 2 December.
Tickets for Elton’s gig cost £40 from Dice, with fans able to buy up to two tickets. The price is similarly fixed at £40 for Baby Keem and Skye Newman’s concerts. Tickets for all three will go on sale on September 28 at 9am.
These aren’t showcase gigs for industry folk or invite-only specials for superfans: they’re fully-ticketed concerts, albeit with artists who have long-graduated beyond traditional venues this size.
The lineup announcement came with details of two of the partners Apple is working with on all this. Dice will handle ticketing for live events at the venue, while independent promoter Communion One will “support bookings and promotion” for the hall.
Trusted relationships are a big thing for Apple, and today’s announcement shows that. Elton John was one of the launch DJs for Apple Music Radio in 2015, and his ‘Rocket Hour’ show celebrated its tenth anniversary last year.
Meanwhile, Dice was an early adopter of the Apple Pay payments technology in 2015 when that launched in the UK, and signed up as a playlists curator on Apple Music the following year.
Apple Music Hall has been built with filmed performances and livestreams in mind, with its hardwiring for cameras and on-site recording and mix studios.
The promotional images make it clear that the initial run of concerts will be “streaming everywhere”, although details of how to access those streams – including whether they’ll require an Apple Music or Apple TV+ subscription – have yet to be announced.
