Police confirm arrest of one suspected attacker of Katsina villages

The Katsina State Police Command on Saturday announced the arrest of a middle-aged man in connection with Friday’s attacks on two Katsina villages.
The bandits on Friday killed at least 30 people in Tsauwa and Dankar villages in Batsari local government area of the state. They also burnt several houses and animals during the attacks.
Confirming the suspect’s arrest on Saturday, the Kaduna Command Spokesman, Gambo Isah said nine motorcycles suspected to belong to the bandits were recovered by the army.
“Yes, we arrested a middle-aged man this (Saturday) morning. The man came to Katsina with stolen items from the areas where the bandits operated on Friday looking for buyers for the items. He was subsequently arrested and he is currently being interrogated.
“Also, we have recovered nine motorcycles strongly suspected to belong to the bandits. The motorcycles were recovered through the army and we are still investigating. I cannot tell you more than that.’’
Earlier in the day, Isah confirmed that the victims were killed in Tsauwa and Dankar villages in the area. He said the bandits invaded the two villages riding on motorcycles on Friday night and begun to shoot residents of the two villages.
According to him, the bandits killed 21 persons in Tsauwa village and the remaining nine persons were killed in Dankar village.
He, however, said that the police and the military were able to arrest one bandit and recovered nine motorcycles belonging to the hoodlums.
Isah said that additional policemen and the military were deployed to the areas with a view to protecting the communities around. He said the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Sanusi Buba, had paid a visit to the affected areas for assessment of the situation, with a view to preventing further occurrence and trail the bandits to their hideouts in the bush.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the majority of those killed were the aged and children who could not run for their life. The bandits burnt down many houses including animals and foodstuffs in Tsauwa village.
