Manchester United face battle to keep Rashford amid PSG interest

Southampton’s late equaliser at Old Trafford has reminded Manchester United they still have work to do to strengthen their squad going into the 2020/21 campaign, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team squandering chances and showing defensive frailty in the 2-2 draw.
For all United’s attacking brilliance, there’s a sense that the squad might be a little unbalanced, and this is reflected in a potential player exchange deal which would strengthen the Red Devils at the back.
Elsewhere, Marcus Rashford’s development has been alerting one of Europe’s giants, while a Real Madrid fringe man continues to be linked with United amid interest from elsewhere in the Premier League.
Marcus Rashford has been a big part of Manchester United ’s resurgence this season, and PSG boss Thomas Tuchel has seemingly taken notice.
According to The Independent, Tuchel has made Rashford his number one priority as PSG prepare for the 2020/21 season, with the publication suggesting United would demand more than £100m for the forward.
The former Borussia Dortmund coach reportedly admires Rashford’s versatility as well as his ability, as he aims to set up a fluid front three going into next season.
PSG have already lost Edinson Cavani on a free transfer, though they have made Mauro Icardi’s loan switch from Inter Milan permanent.
Rashford’s goal against Southampton on Monday night took him to 21 for the season, his best return in a single campaign by some distance.
United could let Martial leave
Anthony Martial’s recent form doesn’t make him an obvious candidate to leave Old Trafford, but that could change if the Frenchman can be used in a deal which brings one of Europe’s top defenders to Manchester.
United have been long-term admirers of Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar, and Calciomercato (via Sport Witness) claims the Italian side could offer up the Slovakian in order to bring Martial to Serie A.
Inter will struggle to meet the asking price for Martial, who would reportedly cost any suitor €70m, but a part-exchange deal could help the Nerazzurri get around that stumbling block.
Skriniar has played 28 league games for Inter this season, per WhoScored, helping them secure Champions League football for a third straight season.
James pushing for Old Trafford move
It would be no great surprise to see James Rodriguez leave Real Madrid this summer, with the Colombian struggling for football under Zinedine ZIdane.
The 29-year-old has played just 78 minutes since La Liga’s resumption in June, and Spanish publication Sport, via TeamTalk, claims he will be allowed to move on for €25m this summer.
Old Trafford is reportedly the playmaker’s preferred destination, though Wolves and Everton are also understood to be interested, and Sport claims any move would require James to take a wage cut.
After returning from a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich, the South American has made just 14 appearances this season – eight in La Liga and just two in the Champions League.
