One World: Together At Home raises $127.9 million

The Rolling Stones have joined the party
‘One World: Together At Home’ has raised $127.9 million for the coronavirus relief fund, according to Bang Showbiz.
The star-studded event – which was curated by Lady Gaga – featured performances from some of the world’s best-known music stars, and fans have been quick to pledge their support to the relief fund.
Global Citizen, a movement that strives to end extreme poverty by 2030, wrote on its official Twitter account: “$127.9 million for COVID-19 relief. That is the power and impact of One World: #TogetherAtHome. Thank you @ladygaga for helping @GlblCtzn create this historic global broadcasting event. To everyone around the world: Stay strong, stay safe, we will be together in person soon. (sic)”
In response to the news, Gaga admitted she was “humbled” to have been involved with the fundraiser.
She wrote on Twitter: “I am so humbled to have been a part of this project. Thank you @GlblCtzn . Thank you @WHO . I love you (sic)”
The event featured appearances from a host of big-name stars, including the likes of Adam Lambert, Rita Ora, Beyonce, Lizzo, and Sir Elton John.
Prior to the broadcast, Gaga described ‘One World: Together At Home’ as a “love letter”.
The chart-topping star thanked people for their support during an emotional Instagram Live video.
She said: “I just want you to know that this is really a true love letter to all of you all over the world.
“I love you and I hope that you feel a big hug from the whole world today because what’s really beautiful about this show is that you’re all hugging each other.”
Gaga has also discussed the importance of self-isolating during the pandemic.
She recently wrote on Instagram: “So I talked to some doctors and scientists. It’s not the easiest for everyone right now but the kindest/healthiest thing we can do is self-quarantine and not hang out with people over 65 and in large groups. I wish I could see my parents and grandmas right now but it’s much safer to not so I don’t get them sick in case I have it. I’m hanging at home with my dogs. (sic)”
Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones is the latest band to join One World: Together At Home.
The ‘Paint It Black’ hitmakers – which comprises Sir Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards – are set to join a host of stars, taking part in the virtual concert alongside the likes of Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Taylor Swift, Stevie Wonder, Billie Eilish, Jennifer Lopez and Lizzo.
They said in a statement: “We are honoured to be invited to be part of the ‘One World: Together at Home’ broadcast – from our homes in isolation.”
The event has been curated by Lady Gaga, who has teamed up with Global Citizen and the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the “historic, first-of-its-kind global broadcast”, which will air across various networks and streaming services around the world.
Money raised will go towards the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, as well as local and regional charities helping those in need and will “celebrate and support brave healthcare workers doing life-saving work on the front lines”.
Gaga said: “We want to highlight the gravity of this historical, unprecedented cultural movement … and we want to celebrate and encourage the power of the human spirit. I would like to send my prayers to people who are losing their jobs and having a hard time feeding themselves and their children.”
Hugh Evans, co-founder and CEO of Global Citizen, added in a statement: “As we honour and support the heroic efforts of community health workers, ‘One World: Together At Home’ aims to serve as a source of unity and encouragement in the global fight to end COVID-19. Through music, entertainment and impact, the global live-cast will celebrate those who risk their own health to safeguard everyone else’s.”
The ‘A Star is Born’ actress also stressed that the concert is not a fundraiser.
She shared: “We want to raise the money before we go on air.
“When we do go on air, put your wallets away, your credit cards away, and enjoy the show.”
Late night talk show hosts Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert will team up to host the evening, alongside the cast of ‘Sesame Street’.
