Jonathan congratulates Diri, urges new governor to unify Bayelsans

Former president, Goodluck Jonathan, has congratulated Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who was sworn as the Bayelsa state governor following the verdict of the Supreme judgment which sacked David Lyon as governor, reports legit.ng.
Jonathan in a Facebook post on Friday, February 14, urged the new governor to take up the responsibility of building hope and sustaining peace across the state.
The former president reminded Diri that he is the governor of all Bayelsans and should use the opportunity to build bridges of unity based on fairness and justice.
“Your journey to Creek Haven is a divine one, so I advise you to use the position to do good to humanity and pursue the development of the State in order to write your name in gold. You have worked with me before as a commissioner, so I am without doubt that you will live up to the expectations of our people,” Jonathan said.
The ex-president urged all Bayelsans to be law-abiding, peaceful and embrace this transition in all sincerity, and work together towards a united and prosperous state.
In another report, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as illegal the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s declaration of Duoye Diri as Bayelsa governor-elect.
Adams Oshiomhole, the APC national chairman on Friday, February 14, accused INEC of illegally declaring Diri as governor-elect.
The party’s chairman said by declaring Diri as the Bayelsa governor-elect, the electoral commission appropriated judicial powers to itself over the Supreme Court ruling that sacked David Lyon as Gov-elect, The Nation newspaper reports.
Oshiomhole said the APC will reclaim its mandate by seeking legal redress in court.
Still on politics, the chairman of the PDP in Lagos state, Adedeji Doherty, has asked the national chairman of the APC Adams Oshiomole, to apologize to the PDP, Bayelsans and Nigerians for allegedly attempting to steal Duoye Diri’s governorship mandate.
Doherty also asked the minister of state for labour, Festus Keyamo, and Bayelsa ex-governor, Timipire Sylvia, to apologise for the same reason.
Doherty said that the entire APC should apologise to the nation for the degradation of all the democratic successes recorded by the PDP within the APC’s short term as the ruling party in Nigeria.
