How Mikel Arteta changed Arsenal’s structure

What the future holds for ‘one of the best modern coaches’

Emiliano Martinez insists Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is “one of the best modern coaches” around, believing he has the ability to lead the Spanish national team one day, reports
Aged just 38, Arteta claimed silverware in his first season in charge, leading his side to impressive wins over Manchester City and Chelsea to lift the FA Cup.
Though finishing in a disappointing eighth place in the Premier League, Arsenal’s FA Cup triumph ensured they will play in the Europa League next season.
Meanwhile, Arteta has sealed the early signing of Willian, with captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in discussions over a new deal.
After learning his craft under the guidance of Pep Guardiola during his three years at Man City, Martinez reveals Arteta now surprises the Arsenal player “day by day”.
“Arteta is a great coach, he changed the structure at Arsenal, he gave us a game plan,” Martinez told Marca.
“He is one of the best modern coaches today. In six months he has won a title, the FA Cup no less, one of the best cups in England and one of the oldest in history.
“He’s very smart, in my opinion, he’s going to be one of the best coaches in the world. I have no doubt that he can lead the Spanish national team.
“Pep Guardiola said that everyone at Manchester City had learned from Arteta. In training we see that he has a clear idea of the game, he surprises us day by day.”
After six distinct loan spells away from Arsenal, Martinez broke into the team under Arteta following a lengthy injury to first-choice ‘keeper Bernd Leno.
The Argentine produced an array of impressive performances, none more so than his emphatic display in their FA Cup final victory over Chelsea.
Regardless, the 27-year-old has now demanded increased game-time if he is to stay with the Gunners, also revealing that 10 clubs are vying for his signature.
