Emmanuel, Adesuwa win 46th CBN Senior Tennis Championship

Emmanuel Michael and Adesuwa Osabuohien, at the weekend, underlined the depth of talent in Nigerian tennis when they beat the cast to win the men’s and women’s singles respectively of the 46th CBN Open Tennis Championship held at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
It didn’t matter that the defending champions were not involved in the finals, as the duo gave the fans at the stadium enough excitement for their money.
In the men’s singles, Michael defeated hard-fighting Prosper Okonkwo, 2-1 ( 7-5, 2-6, 6-3) to lift the trophy and take home the star cash prize attached to it, while Chicago-based Osabuohien came from a set down to stop Omotayo blessing, 2-1 also ( 3-6, 5-1, 6-4 ) to emerge victorious.
In her closing remarks, CBN’s Deputy Governor, Corporate Services, Mrs Emen Usoro, who was represented by the Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, noted that for over four decades, the CBN has remained consistent since this tournament came on stream, even with the introduction of the junior tennis tournament in 2006.
She said the bank remains passionate about the holistic development of the Nigerian youth, adding that it recognises sports as a powerful platform not just for entertainment, but for empowerment, engagement, and National integration.
