Cycling Lagos seeks to promote sustainable energy as season four holds May 31

Organisers of the Cycling Lagos competition have announced plans for the fourth edition of the event slated for May 31.
The 2025 edition, Themed ‘Sustainable Energy,’ will kick off with the Mini Tour of Lagos, a promotional cycling event, on May 15, 2025.
Speaking ahead of the competition, Managing Director of BrandEscort Communications and Convener of the event, Bamidele Adeleye, expressed excitement on the initiative’s growth, impact and success of the cycling championship over the years.
Adeleye said: “Cycling Lagos has become a movement that promotes fitness, unity, and a cleaner environment. This year, we are raising the bar to attract more participants from across the country and ensure an unforgettable experience for everyone”.
Adeleye noted that the event will feature multiple race categories, including celebrity race, professional, challenge, amateur race, corporate contest and children’s race.
He added that the flagship celebrity race is expected to see increased participation this year.
“The Children’s Race will hold simultaneously with the main event on May 31 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium,” he stated.
Adeleye emphasised that the theme for this year’s edition, ‘Sustainable Energy,’ aligns with the Federal Government’s policy on a cleaner environment. He also said that the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 7, which advocates for access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all, necessitated the choice of the theme.
“Sustainable energy refers to energy sources that meet present needs without compromising future generations’ ability to meet theirs. It involves energy production and consumption that are environmentally friendly, socially equitable, and economically viable,” he explained.”
Adeleye highlighted that the event is designed to promote cycling as a major sporting activity in Nigeria, encouraging more people to embrace bicycle riding in their communities for its health and environmental benefits.
He urged corporate organisations to participate in the corporate race category, noting that the event not only fosters healthy competition, but also advocates for an environmentally friendly lifestyle among businesses.
The 2024 edition of Cycling Lagos was endorsed by the Lagos State Sports Commission and sponsored by Samsung and Stanbic IBTC Bank, with additional support from Nutrify, Cway Group, Nestlé Nigeria, McVities, Leadway Assurance, NNPC, and the Lagos State Cycling Association.
