Cote d’Ivoire 2025 Afrobasket: D’Tigress overcome Mozambique in 60-55 thriller

The D’Tigress, on Monday, in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, showed why they are reigning African champions when they rose from the dead to beat Mozambique 60-55 at the ongoing 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.
The game at the Palais de Treichville in Abidjan looked like slipping out when the Nigerians found their groove and took the game to the Mozambicans, who outscored them 13-9 in the first quarter.
Mozambique came out strong, outscoring D’Tigress 13-9 in the first quarter. The second quarter was evenly matched, finishing 15-15, with the Southern Africans holding a slim 28-24 lead at halftime.
The Mozambicans began the third quarter with a 7-0 run, but the D’Tigress battled back, outscoring their opponents 18-15 to close the gap to just one point heading into the final quarter.
D’Tigress started the fourth quarter on a high, opening with a 6-0 run. They held firm under pressure, outscoring their opponents 18-12 in the final stretch to seal a hard-earned five-point victory.
Veteran guard Ezinne Kalu led the way for Nigeria, posting a game-high 16 points and four assists. Promise Amukamara chipped in 13 points and six rebounds, while Murjanatu Musa delivered a standout all-round performance with 12 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, five assists, and three steals, showcasing her dominance at both ends of the floor.
The win took D’Tigress to the quarterfinals, alongside Uganda, who also recorded two wins from two in advancing from Group C.
