Conor McGregor responds to Floyd Mayweather’s Instagram call-out

Floyd Mayweather wasted no time in making headlines in the aftermath of Conor McGregor’s victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246.
The boxing legend, who defeated McGregor back in August 2017, sent fight fans into meltdown on social media by posting a mock-up poster teasing a rematch with the Irishman.
Curiously, Mayweather then followed this up with another poster, teasing a 2020 UFC fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Whatever the reasons for Mayweather’s social media activity, the 42-year-old was clearly trying to send a message.
He’s interested in another mega-money fight this year, whether that’s with McGregor, Khabib or someone else.
UFC boss, Dana White appeared to suggest there was some truth in Mayweather’s post, confirming that he’s been in discussions with the pound-for-pound legend.
“Floyd and I have been talking tonight,” White was quoted as saying by the Mirror. “We’re doing something with Floyd. There’s so much going on, but Floyd is in our plans and we are in Floyd’s plans this year. We’ll end up doing something.”
McGregor himself was asked whether he’d seen Mayweather’s Instagram post in his post-fight press conference.
The 31-year-old confirmed he had, adding: “He forgot McGregor Sport and Entertainment so it’s me against Manny [Pacquiao]!
“Ould Floyd, he’s a funny man. Discussions are always ongoing, they never stop.
“You know Floyd and going through money *fast*, so he’s far from retired and that rematch will happen at some stage.”
Interesting. It seems McGregor quite fancies the rematch himself – and why wouldn’t he?
A rematch would see the two superstars earn astronomical amounts of money (again) while offering McGregor the opportunity to exact his revenge over the American.
But the big question is: will we see them battling it out inside the octagon next time?
