By Kelechi James

Immediate past chairman of Owan West Local Government Area, Edo State, Frank Ilaboya, has been picked to head the maiden Association of Past Local Government (ASELGON) Award Ceremony billed for August this year.

The notice of his appointment was conveyed to him by the National Secretary of the body, Sahabo Aliyu Gurun on Easter Saturday.

According to Gurin, Ilaboya’s appointment is as a result of his vast knowledge “in this area and your contribution to ASELGON as the chairman, Media & Publicity Committee.”

Other members of the committee are Sabo Bako Sade (Vice Chairman), Abayomi Tella, Gonana Kinka, Scott Ogbemudia and Kawu Idris.

The Award Committee also includes Fidelis Odo, Yomi Ayorinde, (Mrs) Obi Okoeyim,  and Garba Adeniyi, Dance Obama Member, C N Haruna and Oladale Ogunsola, who will serve as the secretary.

The committee, according to ASELGON President, Albert Asipa, “is to organise the first ever award ceremony, where state governors, who have made significant impacts in their states, would be rewarded and honoured for their services to the nation.

“I think we the former local government chairmen are in the best position to spearhead this type of award ceremony because of our grassroots orientation and having worked with these governors over the years.

“I am very confident that the Frank Ilaboya-led committee will do a great job, having proven to be very hardworking and creative since he emerged as the Media and Publicity Chairman of ASELGON just a few months ago,” Asipa added.

The theme of this year’s award is ‘Impactful Governance Recognition Award’ and it will cover two governors each from the six geo-political zones of the federation.

While accepting the responsibility, Ilaboya, who is currently the executive director in charge of Sports Development and Marketing in Edo State Sports Commission, and the Chief Executive Officer of Sportsville Communication Services Ltd, thanked ASELGON’s national executive led by the Asipa for the opportunity “to serve this great association once again.”

He said: “I am excited with this new assignment, having been saddled recently with projecting the image of ASELGON.

“The good thing about this assignment is that it is a familiar terrain for me because our organisation, Sportsville, has been organising one of the most credible sports awards in Nigeria for the past five years.

“One will surely draw from this experience to ensure ASELGON Award ceremony lives up to the billing as elucidated in our terms of reference.

“Once again, I thank the president and the entire members of this great body for being entrusted with this unique responsibility.

“As always, my members and I will do everything possible to deliver an award that everyone will be proud of.”
