Ganduje sacks commissioner for mocking late Abba Kyari
The apex pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo, on Saturday joined Nigerians in commiserating with President Muhammadu Buhari over the death of his Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari.
The condolence message was contained in a statement issued by the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Nnia Nwodo, in Enugu.
“It is with shock that I learnt of the demise of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, as a result of the deadly Coronavirus.
“On behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, I commiserate with President Muhammadu Buhari and the good people of Nigeria on this unfortunate development.
“We should observe strictly all the precautionary measures put in place by government and medical professionals, especially social distancing.
“This exhortation has become more imperative because from reports, the virus is said not to be a city case alone anymore, but that it has crept into communities, making it more ominous and dangerous,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has sacked his commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Mu’azu Magaji with immediate effect.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, the commissioner was removed following his unguarded utterances against the person of the late Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.
He said as a public servant, the commissioner ought to have respected the office by refraining from any act capable of rendering it to disrepute.
“The action of a public servant, personal or otherwise reflects back on the government and therefore, the Ganduje administration would not tolerate people in official capacities engaging in personal vendetta or otherwise,” the statement read.
However, Magaji in his reaction said, “He Ganduje has relieved me of my appointment as Commissioner in Kano State Government! I remain grateful and appreciative HE difficult decision… Masha Allah and I am very grateful to HE for the opportunity to serve him and Kano people”
Muazu Magaji’s offence was jubilating over Kyari’s death on Facebook.
